About the Teacher

  Mrs. Alison Gentry, 3rd Grade

Hi, I'm Alison Gentry, a native of Phenix City and have been teaching in Russell County for 27 years.  I'm a graduate of Glenwood School and Columbus State University, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education.  My goal is to equip children with the tools necessary for success in life.  I bring value to my classroom by providing an enriched learning environment that is both inviting and safe, with a curriculum designed to challenge my students and encourage them to grow to their full potential.  In addition to being a dedicated educator, I'm an avid football and NASCAR fan, as well as  having interests in container gardening, home decorating, and cooking.  I have been married for 25 years and have one son, a daughter-in-law, and four grandchildren.

Spelling/Vocabulary

TIPS FOR BEING A SPELLING STAR

A list of spelling words are assigned to your child each Monday during class.  The list is to be kept in the student's homework folder and reviewed nightly in preparation for testing on Friday.

It is suggested that your child study each week's list every night to assure success on Friday's spelling test.  It is helpful to (1) preview the entire list on Monday to determine which words are more challenging, (2) focus on five words each night, and (3) review the entire list on Thursday in preparation for Friday's test.

  Helpful Hints

  • If your child is absent from school, please send a written note or doctor's excuse explaining the terms of the absence.
  • Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday nights each week.  It is important that every student complete each assignment and return it to class the following day to receive credit.
  •  Please remind your child that each Wednesday is "Library Day" and students are requested to return books to the Library before checking-out new ones.
  • Please encourage your child to develop "good reading habits" by reading quietly for 30 minutes nightly.  Our class recently began the AR reading program and students are now allowed to take online tests on books they have completed.
